University of California Insurance Coverage

The Office of Risk Services at the Office of the President has arranged for students to be covered for a variety of perils while participating in UC sponsored and supervised off-campus activities both domestically and abroad. The coverage is free to the traveler. Registration is required for any trip out of state. To learn more about this important coverage or to complete a registration form, please click here.

Whether you are a student traveling for vacation or an international student traveling to the United States for a few weeks before classes begin, Marsh GatewayConnexions offers insurance coverage for the non-UC travel. This coverage is completely voluntary and is paid for by the student.

Gateway International
The Gateway International Plan provides accident and health insurance coverage for individuals who are traveling outside their home country/country of residence, except for travel to the United States. Insurance coverage is available from a minimum of 15 days up to a maximum of 180 days.
Gateway Premier
Gateway Premier provides Accident and health insurance coverage for individuals who are traveling outside their home country/country of residence for an extended period of time. Coverage is available from a minimum of six months to a maximum of five years.
Gateway Visit America

Gateway Visit America is a short-term insurance plan designed for foreign nationals who are traveling to the United States for leisure travel, such as vacation or visiting family members or friends. Terms of insurance ranging from a minimum of 15 days up to a maximum of 6 consecutive months are available.

Gateway Plus
When your education activity takes you abroad, protecting your personal possessions while you are away from your home country is something to consider. The Gateway Plus Plan can help protect against financial hardship caused by loss of your personal property that you take with you or acquire while abroad.

Protect Assist Gold
The ProtectAssist program provides important travel coverage for a domestic or international trip. The coverage provides protection for trip cancellation if you have to cancel for any reason. The policy will also reimburse you for trip interruption expenses, trip delay, missed connection, baggage and baggage delay as well as medical expenses and emergency medical transportation.
